Terms of Service

1. Acceptance and eligibility

StorySurprise is intended for parents and guardians. You must be at least 13 years old to use the site. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, a parent or guardian must read and accept these Terms with you. By using StorySurprise you confirm you meet these requirements and that the information you provide is accurate.

2. Licence

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access storysurprise.store and read stories shared with you, for non-commercial personal use. This licence ends automatically if you breach these Terms.

You may not:

• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of StorySurprise (except to the extent the law forbids us from prohibiting this).
• Resell, sublicense, rent, or lease access to stories or the site.
• Scrape data from StorySurprise or probe our systems for vulnerabilities.
• Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices.

StorySurprise and the StorySurprise logo are trademarks of EthicsLab Limited. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

3. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for:

• Using only share links that were sent to you (or that you lawfully obtained).
• The accuracy of information you submit in forms (names, story ideas, photos).
• Complying with all laws in your jurisdiction that apply to your use of the site.

You agree not to:

• Use StorySurprise for any unlawful purpose.
• Upload content you do not own the rights to (including photos of children you are not authorised to share).
• Make automated requests against our APIs or attempt to bypass rate limits or security controls.
• Resell or republish stories generated through StorySurprise as part of a competing product.

We may suspend access if you materially breach this section.

4. Stories, AI, and human review

Stories on StorySurprise are personalized illustrated fiction created with AI-enabled tools under human supervision. Our team uses AI as a creative aid; a human reviewer checks, edits, and approves every story before delivery. They are provided for entertainment and family reading only — not educational curricula, medical advice, or professional guidance of any kind.

Despite human review, stories may occasionally contain minor errors or content you did not expect. Review stories before sharing them with young children, and contact us if anything needs fixing.

5. Share links, previews, and unlocks

Each story is delivered through a private link. Creators choose whether a story is free to read or requires a one-time payment to unlock the full book.

• Preview pages are free to read where the creator allows it.
• Paid unlocks are processed by Stripe. Prices are shown before you pay. Payment is charged at confirmation.
• Unlocking grants you personal access to read that story via the link; it does not transfer copyright or commercial rights in the underlying work.
• Share links may expire or be revoked by the creator. We are not responsible if a link stops working after revocation or expiry.

6. Custom story requests and quotes

You may request a custom storybook via our forms. Submitting a request does not create a binding contract until we confirm scope, price, and delivery in writing (typically by email reply to the address you provide). Quotes are estimates; final pricing may change based on complexity, illustration style, and page count.

Optional photos help us prepare a quote. By uploading photos you confirm you have the right to share them and consent to our use as described in the Privacy Policy.

7. Refunds

One-time unlock payments are processed by Stripe. Refund eligibility depends on the nature of the purchase and applicable law. To request help with a payment, use our contact formwith your story link and payment date. We will review each case; Stripe's processing rules may limit what we can reverse after funds settle.

8. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to StorySurprise without refund if you materially breach these Terms — for example, by attempting to circumvent our security, scraping our APIs, or submitting unlawful content.

To ask us to delete information you submitted, use the contact form as described in the Privacy Policy.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

StorySurprise is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that stories will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every child.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability to you arising out of or in connection with the Terms or your use of StorySurprise will not exceed the greater of (a) the total fees you paid us for unlocks in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) £50.

We will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, loss of data, or loss of goodwill, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for: (i) death or personal injury caused by negligence; (ii) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or (iii) any other liability that cannot be lawfully limited or excluded.

10. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to resolve any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or your use of StorySurprise, except that we may bring proceedings to enforce our intellectual property rights in any jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer resident in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also benefit from any mandatory protections of the law of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of that country.

11. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change is material, we will:

1. Update the Last updated date at the top of this page.
2. Post a notice on the home page linking to the current version.

Continued use of StorySurprise after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
